Orange Rockcorps 26th Sept 2008

10 09 2008

Orange Rockcorps will descend on The Royal Albert Hall in just over 2 weeks to present a gig to celebrate the volunteering projects they are actively involved in across the UK. Orange are in partnership with RockCorps, a pro social music production company, to harness the power of music to inspire a new generation of young people to make a real difference in their local community.

Multi-Grammy award winner John Legend will join Guillemots and Busta Rhymes to play an exclusive, money-can’t-buy gig for volunteers taking part in Orange RockCorps, a national music-led volunteering programme.

Taking place at the Royal Albert Hall on 26th September, tickets to the cross-genre, all-star supergig will not be available for fans to purchase or win. In a bold departure from the norm, fans can’t buy their ticket, they can’t win their ticket, they have to earn their ticket by taking part in a four hour Orange RockCorps community project.

O2 Trial Mobile Wallet In London

10 09 2008

In 2004 Nokia joined Phillips and Sony to create the Near Field Communications (NFC) Forum, and within the same year had developed a product to read RFID tags. The 5140 had xpress on covers which came off and an RFID reader went in their place.

Four years on and Nokia have been trialling NFC technology in London on the tube network and selected retail outlets, 500 users were given a Nokia 6131 mobile phone to use for six months as a mobile wallet. The phone had integrated technology including an Oyster card and a Barclay Card Visa built in. The phones also gave users access to the VIP section at the O2 arena and the Wireless festival in Hyde Park.

Sony Announce 1st Batch Of Xperia Launches

10 09 2008

Sony Ericsson have announced that the first batch of Xperia X1’s will initially be released in Sweden, Germany, and the UK on September 30. A further 32 countries in Asia, Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and Latin America are expected to have it for the fourth quarter of the year. North America, China, Australia, and Russia are also mentioned as being launch regions at some point.

However, an SE spokesman admitted, as he ran through a physical demonstration of the phone’s features, that video playback is still “slightly jerky”. This is because playback isn’t yet up to the desired 30f/s, he said.

The phone’s on track to launch according to a schedule posted last month by online retailer Expansys. The supplier stated in a promotional email that the phone’s “release date is set for week 41 (Oct 6-12)”. Expansys also said at the time that the “arc slider” will cost £590 ($1100/€740), SIM-free.
