Flash Player For You Tube Mobile Portal

18 03 2009

You Tube have added a flash based player to their mobile portal, so users can now play video from directly within the site as opposed to opening up your handset streaming player like Realplayer on S60 devices from Nokia.

I haven’t been able to test this on my Nokia N82 (30.0.019) as yet because the link does not show up but is has been mentioned on another site that a user with an E71 can. The same user also mentioned that if he changes his browser agent class to that of an N96 the link would not show up!

So it seems that some users will have this added extra while others are sat waiting for it to be rolled out to other handsets.

Nokia Get The BBC iplayer!

9 09 2008

The BBC is to offer an iPlayer application optimised for the Nokia N96 when the phone is due to launch in the UK on October 1.

The N96 has a chipset for hardware decoding of H.264 video, the same encoding used for iPlayer’s streams on iPhone and iPod Touch. For other Symbian S60 3rd Edition phones, which have software support for H.264, the application will be available from the BBC Mobile website or Nokia form October 1st

“Over the past eight months we have worked tirelessly to ensure BBC iPlayer is available on as many platforms as possible, from the PC and TV to games consoles and mobiles,” said Erik Huggers, director of future media and technology at the BBC. “This partnership is critical to ensuring we continue to reach out to audiences wherever they are and allow them to catch-up on their favourite BBC programmes.”
